Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht running shot
    The Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht.

    Overview

Born of a collaboration of Ocean Alexander and Christensen Shipyards, the Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht is a fully realized luxury yacht built by two of the best names in the industry.Built for entertaining, the Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht features guest accommodations akin to a five-star hotel. The crew accommodations are also plentiful and quite comfortable, all of which goes towards Ocean Alexander’s goal of creating a boat that can be ideal for guest and entertainment while also offering the option of chartering the boat in the future.

    Lower Deck

The Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht’s lower deck floorplan.

Starting with the lower deck, the 120 Megayacht has a master suite and four additional guest staterooms, along with a captain’s cabin and generous crew quarters that includes a galley and heads for all rooms. Accessed by stairway leading to a small marble-tiled foyer, the twin guest room is forward and the two slightly larger guest rooms port and starboard.

One of the two guest stateroom layouts.

The staterooms are large, featuring a wealth of wooden surfaces -- dark tones giving an elegant, warm atmosphere. The heads are all spacious, and the marble showers are like ones in a luxury hotel. Each guest cabin is distinctive with it’s own color scheme. Much of the décor is of this luxury type -- exceptionally crafted. Ocean Alexander does an impressive job making the work tasteful and firmly in the “elegant” formal style.

    The twin guestroom layout.

The twin guestrooms feature two twin beds astride a nightstand, a no-less-modest head every bit the equal of its guest room counterparts, complete with the crystal-bowl sink.

    Crew Quarters.

Accessed by a separate stairway from up off the main deck galley, are the crew quarters. They are an excellent accommodation in their own right with a small galley, a small dining area with an HD TV, six beds, three heads, washer-dryer and a floor-length mirror.

    Master Suite.

Up a level to the main deck, forward are the master suite quarters, a luxurious space with a king-size bed. The port and starboard windows are accompanied by a couch and desk space on each side, respectively. The head comes with the crystal bowl sink, huge shower and a hot tub just next to it. In many ways, the 120 Megayacht is a five-star hotel on the water, and nowhere is that more true than the master suite.

    Dining Area.

The dining area enjoys a backdrop of big, open windows. The dining area has a table fit to seat as many as 10 and leads back into the galley through a beautiful set of wood and art-deco glass panel doors. The lighting in this space is particularly classy with fixtures on each mullion, which give off a warm glow. The overhead lights are on a rheostat.

    Galley.

The galley is designed more as a service kitchen than a luxury one. It has direct access to the crew quarters and features few embellishments save strong, sturdy construction and enough space and storage to feed many guests. The refrigerator is a Liebherr stainless steel with a freestanding Liebherr freezer. The countertops are granite and designed with dedicated prep-work and cooking space in harmony. The galley features a 36” Dacor wall oven, a five-burner Dacor cooktop, microwave oven, Asko dishwasher, and a glass-front wine cooler.

Shown is the dinette just aft of the galley area.

The galley also has a dinette with booth seating just off the main counter space, under a pair of port lights. This can be used in a number of potential entertaining scenarios -- space for the crew to work from, doubling as a comfortable and informal breakfast nook. Likewise a shorter, crew-free trip where the entire party cooks and sits together.

    Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht salon
The salon, viewed from the dining area, aft towards the deck.

    Salon.

Aft through the dining area and along the starboard oak storage space is the salon, a sitting area adorned with comfortable couch-sectionals, a large coffee table, and a view out to the windows or through the electrically powered automatic sliding glass doors out to the aft deck. It is joined on each side by two more art-deco glass panel doors much like those leading to the galley.

    Aft Deck.

The aft deck, canopied by the bridge deck above, has a wood-slatted deck that we find attractive. There is a bar on the port side. The bar has granite countertop matching the galley with three barstools that are comfortable and give the space a laid-back quality -- a counterpoint to the formality in the dining area and salon.

Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht fly bridge
The open flying bridge deck abaft the enclosed sky lounge.

Following the stairs up to the bridge deck takes us to the sky lounge, essentially a more expanded, “clubbier” version of the deck aft of the salon. Outside, a bar in the same forward-port corner with matching barstools makes the space ideal for entertaining. The bar is the same size as its counterpart a level below, though it also has an HD TV above the bar.

Two views of the bridge deck sky lounge.

The sky lounge is designed for longer-term sitting and entertaining. The glass doors to the outer deck are automatic and glass, though not sliding. Storage space, a hutch and a head, a card-table with chairs, larger couches and a glass coffee table give it a less transitional feeling than the main deck salon. Whereas, in the salon, one is constantly moving through that space functionally, on the sky lounge one goes there to stop and relax.

    Pilothouse.

The helm itself is a large space with five large-screen monitors, chart table to port and starboard, as well two Stidd leather pedestal chairs behind the wheel, more comfortable than a movie seat. Just aft is a large table and settee, also leather, followed along the bulkhead by a small captain’s communications office, and the door to the captain’s cabin. The captain’s quarters has a double bed, HD TV, a head, closet, and a door with direct access down to the main deck.

    Bow.

Port and starboard stairs give access to the bow. There, a “C”-shaped settee facing out forward is sure to be a popular place for guests both at anchor and underway.

The aft sun deck, settee seating, and sun chairs.

The sun deck, accessed via stairs on the forward end of the bridge deck sky lounge deck, is yet another al fresco dining space, with sun chairs along the aft end, a settee and table with wicker chairs along portside, a stainless steel grill with granite countertops along starboard, and forward is a raised spa/hot-tub flanked by sun pads -- all under the yacht’s canopy.

    Power

The Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht offers twin MTU 12V 2000, with the option to upgrade. The standard engines have been detuned to about 1450-hp each, which means approximately 12,000 hours between overhauls -- that’s about double the service time of an even more powerful engine. The Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht can easily steam 16 knots all day without any issues.

    Observations

Because the Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht is US-built, she can charter in U.S. waters with 10 or more guests aboard. With that in mind, the yacht can become an income stream. The brands behind it -- Ocean Alexander and Christensen Shipyard -- are the tops of their field and speak to a strong resale potential as well.

Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht running shot
The huge bow of the Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht helps make her remarkably seaworthy.

We think the Ocean Alexander 120 Megayacht is a remarkably versatile vessel. At once, she is an entertaining platform par excellence and a capable charter yacht, as well as being a trusty ocean-going little ship.
